St. Catherine street cultural pedestrian zone (Village)

Creative and commercial, the trail-blazing project AIRES LIBRES was the initiative that gave rise to the Ville-Marie Borough’s most important and foremost “cultural pedestrian zone”. The AIRES LIBRES public art manifestation continues to be the must-see event of the summer with its 60 terraces (bars, restaurants, cafés) and some 200 businesses. Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre, who is also mayor of the Ville-Marie Borough, states, “Because of such initiatives that led to AIRES LIBRES, Montreal radiates specifically because of the energy and outstanding work of its artists and creators. An event like this helps to sustain diversified activities throughout St. Catherine St. attracting increasing numbers of visitors to the city.”
